Black River Gorges National Park
Black River Gorges National Park is a vast national park in the hilly southwestern part of Mauritius. The lush green forests and rolling hills covering this 16,680-acre national park serve as a habitat to over 300 species of native and endemic flowering plants, as well as various species of birds that can exclusively be seen in Mauritius, including the country’s national bird – Mauritius kestrel. The park is best explored on foot, so just follow the hiking trails along the gorges and enjoy the extremely rich flora and fauna along the way.
Chamarel
Chamarel is a lovely village in the southwestern area of Mauritius, known for its many scenic locations and giant tortoises! The Seven Colored Earth Geographical Park, simply called Seven Colored Earth, is Chamarel’s crown jewel – an epic park of sand dunes that shines in seven different colours. Besides this colourful spectacle of nature and wildlife, the village is home to the staggering 272-feet Chamarel Waterfall – which is undoubtedly the tallest single-plunge waterfall in the country.

Nature lovers can spend a relaxing day doting on some 500 plant species in the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. This landscaped green area is commonly referred to as Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and prides itself on being the oldest garden in the Indian Ocean.
