Salty May Meeting Monday May 1st, 2017

Our May meeting will be on Monday, May 1st, 2017 and will begin at 6:30 pm at the Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Blvd.

The Meeting

The featured program will include a review of spring fishing along with planning for several trips to take advantage of the spring bunker and the gradual warming of our waters.

Bring a favorite early-season fly

Bring an early-season fly to discuss with the membership – and an beach adventure story or two.

The 50th Annual Conclave

We will have a discussion on the 50th Annual Conclave, which will take place on June 9-11, 2017. Our featured guest will be Ed Jaworowski. We will also have an interview with Lefty Kreh, who was the featured guest at our 1st Annual Conclave.

David Blinken will spot the beaches for fish and tell us how to hook ’em. We will also have great raffle items and individual casting instruction from our guest as well two FFF master casters. We will have a Friday review of the beaches as well as information on what’s working for the weekend by Rob Thompson who is a North Fork local.

Salty March Meeting Monday March 6, 2017

Our March meeting will be on Monday, March 6, 2017 and will begin at 6:30 pm at the Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Blvd.

The Meeting

The featured program will be by Tom Matassa.

Tom is a physical therapist with 25 years of sports and orthopedic experience. He is the owner of Bell Plaza Physical Therapy, a private outpatient therapy office in Bayside, Queens. Tom is also an avid fly fisherman for 15 years, including kayak fly fishing.

Tom will discuss the mechanics and avoidance of injuries associated with fly fishing as well a pre-season program for prevention.

Members are requested to bring with them a favorite early-season fly. We will hold a discussion on the 50th Annual Conclave, which will take place on June 9-11. Our featured guests will be Ed Jaworowski and an interview with Lefty Kreh.

Salty February Meeting Monday February 6, 2017

Our February meeting will be on Monday February 6, 2017 and will begin at 6:30 pm.

The Meeting

Featured program will be by Jason Hallick who will share a presentation on his trip to Alphonse Island in the Seychelles this past Fall. The presentation will cover the travel, fishing, and tactics of this unique and diverse fishery, and of course plenty of fish porn to get us through the winter months.

The Flyfishing Show

Salty Flyrodders will have a booth at The Flyfishing Show at Somerset, NJ on January 27, 28, 29, 2017 and we are looking for volunteers to manage the exhibit for the three days. A two-hour participation gets a free ticket for the show. Coordinate with Claudio Osorio (cao9268@hotmail.com) or Steve Townsend (stevtown@optonline.net) to sign up for a time and day.

The Meeting

The program will feature a show by David Blinken, guide, conservationist, and great fisherman on salt water adventures from the Bahamas to the East End, including sight fishing for stripers, bait review, and an introduction to his great flies that turn stripers from their path to hit the little (or big) feathered hook. David will also comment on the state of the fishery after our partially recovered fishery this fall. Thank you false albacore.

Dec 5th Meeting & Holiday Party

Our December meeting/holiday party will be on December 5, 2016 and begin at 6:30 pm at the Alley Pond Environmental Center.

Join our famous Holiday Get-Together and Food Festival to celebrate our season’s end. We will also preview next year’s schedule and exciting events planned for Spring. A special fly tying evening is part of the plan.

An alternative plan for hibernation season

Take note of the Fly Tying Symposium at the Garden State Exhibition Center in Somerset, NJ on November 19th and 20th. Tons of materials and tyers will be there for instruction and demonstrations for handling special materials. It is an early Winter solution to the hibernation season that is almost upon us.
