January Meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at New Location

Hello all present and past “Salty” Flyrodders:

We have moved our meetings and base of operation to appropriate facilities located at VFW 9592 at 55 Hickory Lane in Levittown, New York 11756.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 7:00pm.

The Meeting

Our featured event will be a program by Capt. David Blinken on Bonefish and baby Tarpon and a summary of conservation actions regarding Stripers and menhaden harvests. We will also have a discussion on trips, fishing events, and a general outline of our 2018 activities.

The Flyfishing Show

Salty Flyrodders will have a booth at The Flyfishing Show at Somerset, NJ on January 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2018 and we are looking for volunteers to manage the exhibit for the three days. A two-hour participation gets a free ticket for the show. Coordinate with Claudio Osorio (cao9268@hotmail.com) or Steve Townsend (stevtown@optonline.net) to sign up for a time and day.

November Meeting on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at New Location

The VFW offers amenities such as:

  • Full size meeting room
  • Projection Screen & Large TV
  • Kitchen Facilities
  • Board Room
  • Large Casting Field
  • Parking, parking, parking
  • Friendly, inexpensive bar on premises

The kick-off meeting will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 7:30pm – thereafter, on the 3rd Wednesday of each month – holidays excepted.

Take a tour of the facilities. Our speaker will be Mr. Jessie Hornstein of the DEC Region One office. He will be speaking about the DEC tagging program and related subjects.

July meeting on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at Alley Pond

Our July meeting will be on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 and will begin at 6:30 pm at the Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Blvd.

The Meeting

Our program will include a review of the Conclave, a preview of trips for the current season, and commentaries on what’s hot and what’s not.

A short review of conservation issues will also be part of the discussions.

Fly Casting DVD

The club has available a fly casting DVD done by Lefty Kreh and Ed Jaworowski. It is for sale and would benefit any level of caster. It is excellent for showing young casters the how-to and why.

Flushing Line (7 train) to Main St.; Q12 bus to Northern Blvd. (East). APEC has a bus stop right in front of the Center. It is the first building on the right after the Cross Island Parkway. The LIRR stops at Bayside (Port Washington line), and you can walk south to Northern Blvd. and catch the Q12 bus.

June meeting on Monday June 5, 2017 at Alley Pond

Our June meeting will be on Monday, June 5th, 2017 and will begin at 6:30 pm at the Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Blvd.

The Meeting

Our program will include a review and a bit of envelope-stuffing for the Conclave. We will also be looking for trip suggestions as well as summer programs.

The 50th Annual Conclave

Registration for the weekend is officially closed, but you can sign up for the day on Saturday – just contact Joel at jbf1@earthlink.net or 212-486-0443. There are bass and blues in the water actively feeding.

The 50th Annual Conclave will take place on June 9-11, 2017. Our featured guest will be Ed Jaworowski. We will also have an interview with Lefty Kreh, who was the featured guest at our 1st Annual Conclave.

David Blinken will spot the beaches for fish and tell us how to hook ’em. We will also have great raffle items and individual casting instruction from our guest as well two FFF master casters. We will have a Friday review of the beaches as well as information on what’s working for the weekend by Rob Thompson who is a North Fork local.

We have a two-handed session on Saturday afternoon for all those so inclined.
